Women's Tennis Qualifies For AMC Tournament

The UNOH Women's tennis team competed in the American Mideast Conferece for the first time during the 2008-09 season. The Lady Racers overall record of 8-11, was much improved from their 4-14 inaugural season. UNOH also finished 4-3 in AMC play, which is good enough to be seeded #3 in the AMC tournament, that is slated to take place this Thursday and Friday.

During the AMC season, the Lady Racers defeated Roberts Wesleyan, Carlow, Shawnee State, and Cedarville. They suffered losses to Malone, Walsh, and Ohio Dominican.

In doubles play, Sophomore Jamie Hilborn led the #1 team with a 10-9 record, while Sophomore Erynn Piper played alongside Hilborn with a 7-7 record. Leading the #2 attack was Freshman Tara Carr at 10-9 and Junior Ashley Carmack finished 7-3. At the #3, Sophomore Amy Shilling finished 5-8 while Freshman Ashlea Wills was 4-5.

In singles play, Jamie Hilborn was the only Racer to play the #1 and she finished 10-9 on the season. Ashley Carmack finished 5-8 at the #2, while Tara Carr finished 1-5 at the position. At the #3, Tara Carr thrived as she finished 10-3, while Ashley Carmack finished 1-4. Erynn Piper played one match at the #3 and finished 0-1. At the #4 position Erynn Piper finished 7-11, Sophomore Carling Barrett was 0-1 at the #4, but at the #5 she finished 7-9. Freshman Erin Brooks, Amy Shilling and Ashlea Wills all played one match at the #5 position, and all went 0-1. At the #6 position, Sophomore Beth Gwin finished 4-6, while Ashlea Wills finished 2-5, and Carling Barrett had one match and finished 0-1.

With their 3rd place finish in the AMC standings, the Lady Racers will face #2 seed Walsh University on Thursday afternoon, at 1:00 pm. The winner of that match, will face the Ohio Dominican/Cedarville winner on Friday for the national tournament bid. The AMC tennis tournaments will be held at Cedarville University.
