The UNOH lady golfers got a team effort on Saturday afternoon. In the game of golf, most people don't think it takes a team to win an event, but on Saturday, the Racers needed every golfer to finish 1st as they tied with Ohio Dominican, but had to use the 5th golfer's score to determine the tie-breaker. UNOH won the event as Hollie Johnston's 101 ousted Ohio Dominican's 103. The Racers teed off and from the get go, they controlled the early lead after the first nine. Vanessa Herbert got things started for the Racers as she reached the turn with a 39. Christy Brinkman shot a 41. Melissa Finch and Erin Winings each made the turn with 42's. Hollie Johnston finished with a 51. The second nine appeared to give the Racers difficulties as Melissa Finch continued her effort as she fired a 40. Christy Brinkman was right behind her with a 41. Erin Winings finished the second 9 with a 45. Vanessa Herbert couldn't build on her first 9, and totaled a 48 on her second nine. Hollie Johnston, not knowing how crucial her score was, finished with a 50 on the second nine. For the event, the Racers were led by Christy Brinkman and Melissa Finch as they each totaled 82's, to finish tied for 3rd overall. Erin Winings and Vanessa Herbert finished tied for 16th overall as they each totaled 87's. The playoff winning score of Hollie Johnston's 101 sealed the 2nd tournament championship this fall for the women's golf team. Also playing as an individual in the event was UNOH's Rachael Cox, as she finished with a 105 for the event. The Lady Racers will be back in action on October 3rd and 4th at the Auld Crafters Kisor Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican. |
