Lady Racers Finish 9th of 14 At St. Francis Invitational

Winings shot a 91 and 95 during the two day event

April 14, 2008

The Lady Racers traveled to Kendallville, IN to take part in the St. Francis Cougar Invite over the weekend. There were 14 teams that competed in the event from across the midwest. During the two day event, the teams got to compete in a wide range of weather conditions. The Lady Racers found a way to finish the tournament and grab 9th place in the event after firing a 925 for the two day event.

On day 1 of the St. Francis Cougar Invite, the UNOH team of Erin Winings, Vanessa Herbert, Hollie Johnston and Rachael Cox had the last two tee times. The first round was very windy and as most teams finished the first round, it was halted by a lighting storm delay of over an hour. When the team resumed their play they were faced by winds that had increased to 50 mph gusts. The team, led by Erin Winings 91, fired a 471 over the 5950 yard Noble Hawk Golf Links placing them in 14th place. Vanessa Herbert entered the clubhouse with a 112, Hollie Johnston 132, and Rachael Cox 136.

Day 2 found conditions even worse. When the Lady Racers teed off on Saturday the temperatures hovered around 40 degrees with a wind chill near freezing. During the round, the team was faced with wind, rain, hail and snow throughout the round which caused five teams to withdraw from the tournament after beginning play. The team, again led by Erin Winings 95, improved their second round play to 454 and a 9th place finish. Every Lady Racer improved through the harsh conditions as Vanessa Herbert fired a 104, Hollie Johnston 123, and Rachael Cox a 132.

The Lady Racers will be back in action on April 15th when they take part in the Wittenberg Invitational.
