RACERS WIN SECOND IN A ROW ON THE ROAD



Koester has strong first half in Racer victory

Coming off of the first win in school history at the NAIA level, the UNOH Lady Racers traveled to Walsh University on Tuesday evening and left North Canton with a 70-64 victory over the Cavaliers. In a game plagued by turnovers, UNOH with 23 and Walsh with 25, the Lady Racers controlled the boards and hit key free throws down the stretch to seal the second win in a row to bring the Lady Racers to 2-1 early in their inaugural season.

The Lady Racers quickly jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first 8 minutes of the contest as UNOH made 5 three pointers in that run, with two of them coming from Andrea Meyer. With 4 minutes remaining in the first half, Krissy Koester made two consecutive jumpers to give UNOH their largest lead of the evening at 13. Koester also connected with 8 seconds left in the half to put the lead back to 9. Koester finished the first half with 11 points.

The second half became a slugfest as Walsh opened with a 15-6 run to give the Cavaliers their first lead of the evening at 46-44. The Lady Racers fought back as Abbie Clifton had consecutive baskets to extend the lead to 61-55 with 5 minutes left to go in the game. With less than three minutes remaining in the contest, Walsh found themselves trailing and had to foul. The Lady Racers finished the final minutes of the contest 11-14 from the free throw line to make them 17-24 for the game.

Leading the way for the Racers was Krissy Koester as she finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Also reaching double figures was Abbie Clifton with 11 points and 7 rebounds, and Andrea Meyer with 10 points, including 3 three pointers. Kelly Warris and Erian Buckman both provided sparks off the bench as Warris had 8 rebounds and 6 assists; Buckman provided 8 points and 3 steals.

The Cavaliers put three players into double figures as Leah Seaman led the charge with 16 points. Cara Bedard and Callie Butcher provided 13 and 10 points, and Katie Berry had 13 rebounds.

The Lady Racers will be resume action Tuesday November 20th when they face Urbana University with tip-off set for 5:00 PM.
