Jason Klaus led UNOH golfers in fall

Nov. 4, 2007

The first fall season for the men's golf team at UNOH has come to an end. The Racers traveled to 3 different tournaments competing against a different range of schools. The outlook for this first fall season was to gain experience and bring UNOH to the standards in the collegiate golf setting.

The Racers first traveled to Alliance, OH to play in the Malone College Men's Invitational. The experience was gained quickly and the reputation for Racers golf was established. The UNOH Men's golf team finished 6th at the event out of 12 teams and were lead by Scott Kayser who placed 5th in the event after firing a two-round total of 147. Kayser was followed closely by teammate Jason Klaus who shot 152 and finished 13th overall at the event.

Next up for the squad was the Wittenburg Invitational. The Racers were showing promise throughout the event, and finished a solid 10th out of 15 teams. Leading the way for the Racers this time was Jason Klaus who shot a two-round total of 148, good enough for a 13th overall finish. Scott Kayser was close behind with a 152 and 27th overall. The rest of the Racers were right behind as Joey Stone shot 157, Daniel Rex scored a 161, and Joe Rodriguez finished with a 165.

The last event for the Racers was the Holiday Inn Colonial Classic at Robert Morris University. This event featured mostly NCAA Division I teams, and the UNOH Racers gained the most experience from this event. The Racers finished 10th out of 11 teams and were once again led by Jason Klaus's 154 and Scott Kayser's 163.

The Racers first fall season was considered a success and a promising look for the spring season. The Racers gained tremendous experience and will prove to be a force in the future for Racer Athletics. The Racers medalist for the fall was Jason Klaus with a competition average round of 75.6 and followed closely by Scott Kayser with an average round of 77. The Racers will be in competition again this spring, check back for further updates.
