The UNOH Racers took part in the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, their last tuneup before the AMC Championships. The Racers came out on Day 1 and grabbed a commanding lead, and edged out the competion for their first victory in the short programs history. It was the first tournament victory in Head Coach Kevin Kitchen's short tenure at UNOH. On Day 1, Junior Daniel Rex led the Racers with a 77. Sophomore Jake Swart was right behind with a 78. Sophomore Jason Klaus helped the Racer attack with a 79. Freshman Scott Denig and Freshman Joe Hobensack each fired an 81 to round of the team scoring. The Racers fired a team score of 315 for Day 1, which was a 5 stroke lead over Heidelberg. On Day 2, the Racers lost a little ground, but still came away with the team victory. Scott Denig led the Racers for the day with a 77. Jake Swartz fired a day two of 79. Daniel Rex entered the clubhouse with an 80. Jason Klaus and Junior Joe Hobensack each fired 81's on the day. For the tournament, Daniel Rex and Jake Swartz each shot 157's, which was good enough for 5th. Scott Denig's 158 placed him in 8th. Jason Klaus finished 12th with his 160. Joe Hobensack finished the team scoring with a 162 and finished 18th. Competing as individuals were Senior Patrick Norton and Junior Brian Bowker. Norton finished 28th with a 167, while Bowker finished 33rd with a 171. The Racers will now be back in action on Wednesday, April 29th, as they will play in the 3-day AMC Tournament for the bid to the National Tournament for the 2008-09 season.
