The University of Northwestern Ohio Racers don't have many home games this season on the campus of UNOH, but they are making the best of their home court advantage. The Racers have now won three in a row at Racer Gymnasium as they defeated Siena Hieghts University 94-87 on Friday night. The Racers started out cold in the first 8 minutes of the game as they fell behind 16-6 early in the contest. The Racers quickly heated up the gym as they pulled even at 21-21 with 8 minutes left in the half. UNOH took their first lead off a jumper from Josh Vorst at the 5:30 mark in the first half with the score 23-21 in favor of the Racers. Jason Sarno drained one of his three trey bombs as time was expiring in the first half to bring the score to 34-31, advantage UNOH. The second half saw the Racers keep up their hot shooting as they shot 69% from the floor including 63% from behind the arc. The Racers were up 43-42 when Jason Sarno connected on another three pointer and also scored a layup to give the Racers a 6 point lead with 16 minutes left in the game. With 15 minutes left, the Racers were up 3 until a run of 7-0 put UNOH up 57-47 with 11 minutes remaining. The Racers would push their highest lead up to 14 points under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Just when it looked like the Saints were going to make a run at overtaking UNOH, the Racers responded with a playmaker and put away the Saints of Siena Heights. The Racers had a balanced scoring attack on Friday night. They were led by Jason Sarno and his 23 points. Josh Vorst was right behind Sarno with 20 points. Vorst also dished out 7 assists. Kyle Gillette controlled the paint with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. Isaac Bowers drove to the basket and made it rain from long range 3 times to total 15 points. Brandon Miller and Aaron Braun both totaled 8 points, and Miller also grabbed 6 rebounds. The win moves the Racers to 6-11 on the season and they have built a three game winning streak at home. The Racers will be back in action on Saturday, December 29th at 2:00 PM when they welcome the St. Francis College Cougars to Racer Gymnasium. |
