RACERS FINISH THIRD AT CRUSADER CLASSIC

The UNOH Racers took part in their final tournament of the season at the Crusader Classic on the campus of Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan. The Racers faced Marygrove College in the consolation game of the final day of the tournament. It was the first of three matchups this year between the two teams. UNOH raced out to an early lead in this meeting to control the game and picked up the victory with a final of 94-82.

The Racers jumped out early as they went on an early 10-0 run to take the lead at 15-5. With UNOH up 19-12, the Racers went on another run of 7-0 as Josh Vorst scored 5 consecutive points along with Aaron Braun's two to give them a 26-12 lead.Marygrove would find ways to get back to single digits as the Racers led 32-23 with 7:00 minutes remaining in the first half. Once again, UNOH went on another 8-0 run with Kyle Gillette rattling off 6 of the points to extend the lead to it's largestof the first half to 17. UNOH led at halftime 52-39.

In the second half, the Racers took control of the game and never showed signs of letting Marygrove back into the game. The Racers led by as many as 23 in the game, and finished off Marygrove with a final of 94-82.

Josh Vorst led the Racers on Saturday as he scored 20 points and dished out 9 assists. Kyle Gillette had 18 points and 4 blocks. Jason Sarno totaled 17 points and 5 steals. Isaac Bowers and Brandon Miller had 12 and 10 points to round out the double figures column for the Racers.

With the win, the Racers move to 4-10 on the year. Marygrove falls to 1-12 on the season. The Racers will be back in action Friday December 21st as the travel to Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.

On Friday night, the Racers took on the host Madonna University in a thriller. The Racers started out early with a quick 5 point lead, but a drought in scoring put the Racers in a hole the rest of the first half. UNOH went down by 15 in the first half and found themselves down by 9 at the break.

The Racers fought back in the second half and eventually took a 1 point lead with 5 minutes remaining in the game. The lead didn't last long as Madonna quickly responded and regained the lead. The Racers found themselves down by 3 with seconds remaining after Madonna made both free throws. The Racers couldn't get off a great shot in :18 seconds and missed a three to fall to Madonna 74-71.

In the contest, the Racers were led by Josh Vorst and his 15 points. Right behind him was Kyle Gillette who recorded another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Bowers and Jason Sarno both chipped in with 11 points.

Kyle Gillette was selected to the Crusader Classic All-Tournament Team in his efforts over the weekend.
