Sarno leads Racers with 20

Final Stats

The University of Northwestern Ohio Racers played in the second game of the Hoops 4 Healing Classic and a battle with Malone College. UNOH traveled to North Canton, OH to take part in the two day event. On Friday night, the Racers fell to Malone College 71-66.

The game tipped off in the Racers favor as Marcus Addy opened with a layup to give the Racers their first and only lead of the evening. Poor shooting would follow for the rest of the first half. With 6:00 minutes remaining in the first half, the Racers found themselves down 23-15. UNOH would then go on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 23's before Malone would strike with a layup with :20 seconds left giving them a halftime lead of 25-23.

With 5:00 minutes remaining in the game, the Racers slipped to their largest deficit of the night at 10. Jason Sarno connected on 2 three pointers and also got fouled on a three and made all three, only to have Malone answer after every shot to keep the lead at 7. The Racers would cut the lead to 3 under :30 seconds, but couldn't square the game up with the Pioneers.

Leading the way for the Racers was Jason Sarno with 20 points. Josh Vorst totaled 12 points and Marcus Addy added 10. Kyle Gillette grabbed 7 rebounds.

For the Pioneers, Tyler Renner scored 24 points and also had 8 rebounds. Ben Carver added 17 points and 6 assists. Shane Humphrey led the Pioneers with 11 rebounds.

With the loss, the Racers fall to 2-8 on the season while the Pioneers move to 6-4. The Racers will be back in action on Saturday as they will face #3 ranked Walsh University at 1:00 PM for the second time this season. In the last meeting, Walsh defeated UNOH 98-82.
