The UNOH Racers sprinted to the finish line on Tuesday night to secure it's first home victory in school history for competing at the NAIA Division II level. The Racers took on the Falcons of Notre Dame College out of Cleveland, OH. After holding a slim halftime lead, the Racers continued on without a pitstop to seal the game at 82-75. Ten minutes into the contest, the Racers found themselves down by 5. At that point, the Racers went on a 8-0 run to take a 23-20 lead with 7:00 minutes remaining in the first half. The Racers seemed to have all the momentum rolling into half as Josh Vorst made a layup with :30 seconds remaining, only to yield some of that momentum to Kyle Miller with a 3 as time expired in the first half. The second half became one of the best performances to date for the Racers as charisma and effort was displayed. Statistically this season, the Racers have been outscored in the second half in almost every game, but the young men of UNOH would not allow that on Tuesday night. The Racers kicked off the second half with a three pointer by Jason Sarno. UNOH would then proceed to see their lead diminish as the Falcons would eventually take the lead at 46-44 with 15:00 minutes remaining. The Racers would then get the right spark plug they needed. With 2:00 minutes remaining in the game, the Racers needed a huge possession, and they found it in Marcus Addy as he drained a three pointer to extend the lead to 7 points. at 70-63. From there on the Racers would go 10-12 from the free throw line to seal the deal for The University of Northwestern Ohio. Leading the way for the Racers was Jason Sarno as he totaled 25 points with 10-12 from the free throw line. Josh Vorst was right behind Sarno with 24 points. For the Falcons, Jerome Pierce gathered 27 points off of 11-20 shooting from the field. Karim McFarlane also contributed with a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The win moves the Racers to 2-7 on the season, and the Falcons fall to 3-5. The Racers will be back in action this Friday and Saturday as they will compete in the Hoops 4 Healing Basketball Tournament. UNOH will face Malone Friday night at 8:00 PM and will take on Walsh at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. |
