Box Score

Opening night at Racer Gymanasium was full of excitement as the UNOH Racers were ready to take action for the first time in 21 years. The gymnasium was at near capacity and with the opening tip, the Racers reaffirmed that athletics were back at UNOH.

The first two points in Racers history went to Kyle Gillette as the Racers got on the board shortly after Embery Pope got the Indiana Tech Warriors of to a quick start by hitting a three pointer from the corner. The Racers offense started off slow as they fell behind 14-7 at the 14 minute mark in the first half, but a spark off the bench by Jason Sarno and his two three pointers, the Racers were back in it at 18-17. With the first half winding down under 3 minutes, a free throw by Brandon Miller gave the Racers their first ever lead at 35-34. After six consecutive points by Indiana Tech's Brad Webster, UNOH went into the half facing a deficit of 44-38.

Second half resumed where the Warriors left off as the home team fell behind by 9 early. Early in the second half the Racers faced their largest deficit of the night. After a short timeout by Coach Adams, the Racers rallied around their fans and Josh Vorst as Vorst scored 10 of the teams 13 points in a 13-0 run. The Racers proceeded to reach their largest lead of the night at 5, but the Warriors depth continued to overpower the Racers. With under two minutes remaining in the contest, the Racers were down by 5 and found themselves fouling to get back into the game. The Warriors were solid in the closing minutes at the free throw line and extended the lead back to 13. The Racers capped off the final scoring to make the first final in UNOH Racers history 87-76.

The Racers were led by Josh Vorst who poured in 25 points with 11-19 from the field. Sarno came off the bench to chip in 14 points, and Kyle Gillette supported with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Vorst also crashed the boards as he chipped in with 7 rebounds. The Warriors put 4 players in double figures as Anthony Jones and Tim Browning each led with 18 points each, and Bryant Austin and Anthony Johnson chipped in with 13 and 10 respectively.

The Racers will be back in action Saturday November 10th against Walsh University, with the tip-off at 4:00 PM.
