The UNOH Racers tipped off their 3rd season on the road on Tuesday night. The Racers played Brescia University in Brescia, KY. The Racers were up to the challenge from the get-go and downed Brescia 61-58. Both Brescia and the University of Northwestern Ohio received NAIA Preseason Votes for the national rankings, but UNOH proved to be the better force on Tuesday night as they grabbed a 6 point halftime lead, and held off a Brescia comeback to start the season off at 1-0. The difference on the scoreboard was magnified at the free throw line. Brescia and UNOH shot identical from the field, but the Racers were 17 of 21 from the free throw line for 81%, while Brescia was 9 of 15 for 60%. Leading the way for the Racers was Junior Kyle Gillette with his signature double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Gillette shot 7 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Senior Josh Vorst was the only other Racer to reach double figures with 17 points. Sophomore Dustin Guthrie chipped in 8 points for the Racers. The Racers will stay in Kentucky to play on Wednesday evening as they will face St. Catharine University with a tip set for 7:00 pm. |
