The UNOH Racers were hoping their recent success would carry over in the matchup against Walsh University. The Racers, who had won 7 straight AMC contests, were looking for one final upset over Walsh. The game meant more to UNOH as a victory would give them a first round bye in the AMC tournament. Walsh, who already locked up the #1 seed in the tournament, used a 12-2 run late in the contest to pull away from the Racers, 60-50. The game started off in Racer fashion as UNOH grabbed a 20-8 lead half way through the first half. From there, Walsh used a 14-7 run the rest of the half to cut the lead to 5 at 27-22. Walsh would gather their momentum early in the second half as they used a 12-0 run to take their first lead of the contest at 34-29. The Racers would crawl back into the contest as they would tie the game up twice in the next few minutes. The Racers would eventually grab the lead at 44-43, but then Walsh used a devastating 13-1 in the final minutes of the game to bury any Racer hopes of an upset. Walsh's Brandon Speck drained three 3 pointers during that run. UNOH could not garner any stops in the closing minutes as Walsh left The Garage with a 60-50 victory. The 60 points by Walsh, was their lowest point total of the season, but yet wasn't enough for the Racers to overcome the #4 ranked team in the nation. Leading the way for the Racers was Junior Josh Vorst with 19 points. Senior Jason Sarno and Sophomore Isaac Bowers each had 9 points on the night. Sophomore Kyle Gillette had 8 points and 8 rebounds. With the loss, the Racers will now be the #3 seed in the AMC tournament, and will play host to Daemen College on Tuesday, February 24th at 7:30 pm. The Racers finish the regular season 17-13, and 9-4 in AMC play. If the Racers win at home on Tuesday, they would travel to #2 seed Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, February 28th. The Racers defeated Daemen College earlier this month at Daemen, 70-69. |
