Final Stats

The University of Northwestern Ohio Men's Basketball team, in it's second year of existence, has far and above reached expectations that nobody could expect during the 2008-09 season. The Racers clinched a postseason bid already, and were looking for more as they downed Wilberforce 81-58 on Tuesday night inside The Garage.

UNOH controlled from the get-go as they used an early 15-5 run in the first 6 minutes. The lead would reach 12 points, before the Bulldogs responded and cut the lead to 3 with 10:57 left in the first half. The Racers would quickly counter as they pushed the lead up to it's largest in the first half at 37-22 with 3:46 left in the half.

Wilberforce would cut the lead to single digits at the break as UNOH led 41-32 at the half.

In the middle of the second half, the Racers used a devastating 14-0 to extend the lead to 29 at 65-36 with 12:02 left in the game. All engines were clicking for UNOH during the run, and then proceeded to extend the lead to it's largest of the night at 32 with just under 7 minutes remaining in the game.

The Racers, who led the entire contest, called off the dogs at the 6 minute mark and would cruise home with an important AMC victory.

Leading the way for the Racers was Junior Josh Vorst who poured in 27 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kyle Gillette added 15 points and 6 rebounds. Senior Jason Sarno finished off the double digit scoring with 11 points. Sophomore Brandon Miller came close to a double-double with 8 points and 13 rebounds.

The Racers who currently stand in a third place tie with Mt. Vernon Nazarene University, need to win their final game against #4 Walsh University on Saturday to position themselves with a first round bye in the AMC Tournament. The matchup with Walsh will start at 7:30 pm.
