The biggest win in the University of Northwestern Ohio men's basketball is going to have to wait. The Racers fell 88-68 to Mountain State, the top-ranked team NAIA Division I. Jason Sarno scored 10 points over the first 10 minutes of the game to keep the Racers (7-16) close, down only 16-15. The Cougars turned it up after that, though, and closed the first half with a 42-33 lead. Sarno finished with a game-high 22 points on 4 of 8 3-point shooting. The Racers made 8 of 19 from 3-point range. Sarno also hit 6 of 6 free throws and came away with two steals. Three players, Adron Marshell, Tyrice Watkins and Jason McGriff, snared nine rebounds each for Mountain State (21-0) as the Cougars held a 46-23 edge in rebounding. Mountain State had 23 defensive rebounds while UNOH collected 13. Marshell paced the Cougars with 20 points, making 8 of 10 free throws. He scored 14 points after halftime. Denzel Lyles added 11 points while James Spencer scored 17. Each made three 3-pointers. Ermin Tarcin scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds. For UNOH, Josh Vorst scored 16 points with three 3-pointers and Kyle Gillette added 12 points. Gillette had six rebounds and a block. The Racers return to action Friday at Daemen. |
