[Motorsports] Motorsports team has "most successful" trip to Florida

LIMA – Paul Higgins chuckles when he wonders what an outsider thinks about the University of Northwestern Ohio Motorsports team's annual trip to Volusia, Florida, for the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals. The head coach of the team, Higgins knows it isn't all fun, sun and sand.

Every year, the group of returning team members will try to prepare the newcomers for what's in store at Volusia. The team took a trip to Missouri last year, and the veterans tried to show the first-year members what they could expect from the non-stop work in Florida, but all agreed it's really an experience to be met firsthand.

LIMA - Throughout the season, Ryan O'Dette has been plagued by a steep learning curve and some tough luck. Friday night, though, O'Dette showed what he's learned in his first full season behind the wheel of a modified for the University of Northwestern Ohio High Performance Motorsports team.

O'Dette won the McDonald's Dash for Cash to open the night at Limaland Motorsports Park, following that with a win in his heat and finally a fourth-place finish in the K&N UMP Modified 20-lap feature.

LIMA - It was a night on the track to quickly forget and put behind for the University of Northwestern Ohio High Performance Motorsports team, but the Racers made a mark with a fellow competitor in the pits.

When Jake Reufer left his K&N UMP Modified heat with his car no longer working, he stepped into the No. 00 UNOH car to keep his hopes for a Limaland Motorsports Park points title alive; he entered the night in third place, just 18 points out of first place.

LIMA - It's been three Fridays since the University of Northwestern Ohio Motorsports team turned laps around its home track at Limaland Motorsports Park, and judging by last Friday's results, the time away didn't hurt at all.

Kody Weisner wheeled the No. 1 modified car to a sixth place finish in the K&N UMP Modified feature, Dwight Niehoff was right behind in seventh and Ryan O'Dette was 12th.

ATTICA - With no racing Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park, the University of Northwestern Ohio Motorsports team loaded up its two modified cars and traveled to Attica Raceway Park. Ryan O'Dette continued his improvement through his first season as a driver, taking fifth place in the Summit Racing Equipment Modifieds 25-lap feature.

It marked O'Dette's best finish this season, bettering his sixth-place finish at Limaland on May 25, and it was his third top-10 finish. O'Dette finished second in his heat race.

LIMA - When Kody Weisner last saw Limaland Motorsports Park, he was riding in his modified car on the hook of a tow truck after a seven-car pile-up claimed his night. The wreck forced his move from the 00 car he had used all last year and the beginning of this one to the 1 car he manned Friday.

After some hiccups and adjustments, Weisner and his University of Northwestern Ohio crew seemed to figure a few things out as he claimed a sixth place finish in the K&N UMP Modified feature Friday at Limaland for the UNOH High Performance Motorsports Team.

LIMA - As the weeks have passed, Ryan O'Dette has felt increasingly comfortable behind the wheel of the 01 modified for the University of Northwestern Ohio High Performance Motorsports team. Unfortunately, the results haven't shown in finishes on the track.

Friday night at Limaland Motorsports Park, though, O'Dette ran to his best finish this season, coming home seventh in the K&N UMP Modified feature. His previous best finish was eighth in the season-opening race.

LIMA - On a night when the University of Northwestern Ohio High Performance Motorsports team broke in two new stock car drivers, the two stock drivers who remained on the roster from previous weeks came up with a pair of strong showings Friday at Limaland Motorsports Park.

Dwight Niehoff finished fifth driving the 00 car, nipping teammate Shane Wolf late in the race; Wolf finished sixth. It was the fourth top-7 finish for Niehoff, who entered the night fourth in Limaland points, in the season's first four races.
