[Women's Tennis] Lady Racers fall in first round at NAIA National Championships

MOBILE, Ala. - Three singles matches went to a third set, and the third doubles match went extra points, but the University of Northwestern Ohio women's tennis team couldn't find the right side of the scoring ledger as the Lady Racers fell to Lewis-Clark State College (Id.) 9-0 in the opening round of the NAIA National Championships on Tuesday.

LIMA - University of Northwestern Ohio High Performance Motorsports coach Paul Higgins jokingly says it's taken lots of bent parts, plenty of broken pieces and some conversations, but the end result for the UNOH modified team and driver Kody Weisner is yet another impressive night at Limaland Motorsports Park.

Weisner, a third-year driver for the team, started the feature in 11th position Friday and managed to navigate the traffic for a strong fourth-place finish in the K&N UMP Modified feature race. It followed a second-place showing the last time out, giving Weisner a nice head of steam early in the season.

LIMA - The NAIA released the pairings and brackets for the 2012 Women's Tennis National Championships, held May 15-19 in Mobile, Alabama. The University of Northwestern Ohio was slotted in the 18th-seed and will open up the tournament at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 15 against No. 14 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho).

ADRIAN, Mich. - It was a season filled with promise, and while the University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team had to overcome injuries and other obstacles, the Racers managed to win 31 games and advance to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament in only the program's second year.

However, there will be a feeling of business left undone as the Racers head into the offseason after two losses Wednesday in the double elimination tournament. Siena Heights University opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over UNOH, and Davenport University kept its hopes alive with a 7-2 win against the Racers in the day's final game.

LIMA - After winning 31 games and advancing to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, the University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team was honored by the WHAC with three players on the first team All-Conference list and six more on the honorable mention roll.

Pitchers Zach Petrick and Austin Park, and outfielder Ben Smith were named to the first team. Pitchers Juan Espinosa and Pichi Torres, infielders Dylan Brammer and Ben Schubert, catcher Cory Cook, and designated hitter Kevin Cyrus appear on the honorable mention list.

LIMA - The University of Northwestern Ohio women's tennis held on to top Aquinas College 5-3 in a NAIA Unaffiliated Group semifinal Friday at Westwood Tennis Center. The Lady Racers held a 2-1 lead after the doubles but saw the Saints rally for a 3-3 tie before Nathalia Da Silva and Jessie Stambaugh won their singles matches for the win.
