ADRIAN, Mich. - In winning 18 straight games and a 21-1 overall record, the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team hadn't been tested much. That changed Saturday when the Lady Racers faced Siena Heights University, but they moved those numbers to 19 straight wins and a 22-1 record with a 3-2 win over the Saints.
The Lady Racers are 4-0 in the conference, in a four-way tie atop the standings with Davenport University, Madonna University and Indiana Tech. UNOH hosts Davenport at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Madonna on Oct. 24 and travel to Indiana Tech on Nov. 2.
Individual set scores against the Saints (11-4, 3-1 WHAC) were 25-14, 16-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-9.
Lauren Maxwell had 42 assists for UNOH, and Casey Gates (21 kills), Emily Crowell (10) and Brittany Egbert (9) were the primary beneficiaries. Gates had two solo blocks as the Lady Racers had 11.5 total blocks; Megan Fullenkamp had two solo blocks and five assists.
Ellie Comes had 15 digs, Egbert had seven digs and Maxwell added six. The Lady Racers had 50 digs.
