Edgar Figueroa, who signed with the University of Northwestern Ohio baseball team in May, has been named a 2012 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner after his freshman season at Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois. The teams were selected in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Figueroa is one of only nine players in NJCAA Division I to receive the honor. He had a .976 fielding percentage at short stop for the Lakers. He also batted .426 in 51 games, driving in 34 runs while scoring 38 times, hitting 15 doubles and five home runs. He had 28 stolen bases in 30 attempts.

He is one of four players recently recruited from Lake Land to play for the Racers, including Vince Anello, Jose Gonzalez and Micah Wolfe.
