MOBILE, Ala. - Three singles matches went to a third set, and the third doubles match went extra points, but the University of Northwestern Ohio women's tennis team couldn't find the right side of the scoring ledger as the Lady Racers fell to Lewis-Clark State College (Id.) 9-0 in the opening round of the NAIA National Championships on Tuesday.
Shaleigh McClintock won the first set of her second singles match 6-3 and after falling in the second 4-6, she took Dorothy Chong to the brink in a 10-12 loss. Nathalia da Silva lost her first set, 2-6, but won her second set at fourth singles 6-1 before falling in the third 11-9. Tara Carr won her first set 6-4, but lost the next two 6-2, 10-8.
Carr and Andrea Arango lost their third doubles match 9-8.
No. 14 Lewis-Clark (8-14) advances to the next round. The Lady Racers finish the season 16-10 and ranked No. 19 in the nation. They were also the first UNOH Athletics team to advance to a NAIA national tournament.
