
LIMA - The University of Northwester Ohio women's basketball team edged closer to hosting a first-round Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference playoff game with a dominating 74-49 win Wednesday over Madonna University at Racer Gymnasium.
The Lady Racers (16-13, 10-7 WHAC) are tied with Siena Heights University for fourth place in the conference, but they own a tie-breaker thanks to a sweep of the season series between the two clubs. If UNOH wins Saturday against Lourdes University, they would host the game February 23 against the fifth-place team.
Against Madonna, UNOH used a 19-2 run over eight minutes in the first half to take a 24-7 lead and take control of the contest. Shaye Warman hit a pair of 3-pointers in the run, and Rebecca Puckett had eight points.
Amanda Francis led the game for UNOH with 20 points, adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Puckett added 19 points and seven rebounds, and Warman had 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists; Warman hit 4-of-8 3-pointers.
Amanda Henry came off the bench to add seven points and eight rebounds. The Lady Racers held a 52-38 edge on the glass.
Michelle Lindsey led Madonna with 15 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Racers finish up the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday against Lourdes. The team will also honor its two seniors - Francis and Henry - during their last regular season home game.
