LIMA â€" The big names keep adding up on the University of Northwestern Ohio volleyball team. The Lady Racers and coach Kevin Kitchen recently signed Ellie Comes, a libero who is transferring from Owens Community College.

Comes was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American honorable mention list as a sophomore, only the third player in Owens history to reach that level. She is the Express’ career leader in digs, totaling 1,882 in her two seasons.

She is a two-time first-team All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference selection, a two-time first-team All-Region XII pick and a two-time All-Region XII Tournament selection.

“She fits in perfectly with her relentless attitude defensively,” Kitchen said. “She just raises the level of our ball control and defense. She’s just a great kid.”

In her two seasons, Owens had an 87-14 overall record and a 23-1 mark in the conference. The team won two conference titles, a Region XII crown and one runners-up Region XII finish. They went 45-5 last season.

“I just want to better their (UNOH) program and make a difference,” Comes said.
