The UNOH Racers Volleyball Team served up their 2010 season at the Earlybird Invitational at Shawnee State over the weekend. The Racers won three of the matches in straight sets, and the fourth was a five set victory. The Racers experienced their biggest win of the program's existence in their Saturday afternoon win against #19 Shawnee State, which only took three sets.
The Racers started the season against West Virginia Tech. The Racers won in three set by scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-18. Junior
Meagan EnYart led the attack with 13 kills on 17 attempts. Junior
Debbie Brubaker set the Racers up with 23 sets. The Racers served the aces up in the match as they recorded 13 in only three sets.
In their second match against Lindsey Wilson, the Racers experience a tougher matchup but still won in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-17. Junior
Heather Garmire led the attack with 12 kills on 18 attempts.
Debbie Brubaker set the attackers with 35 assists. Junior
Kelly Oldiges, the returning AMC Libero of the Year, recorded 16 digs in the match.
In their biggest match of the weekend, the Racers put forth their best effort and defeated nationally ranked #19 Shawnee State, their first win ever against the Bears. The Racers were led in attacks by
Heather Garmire and
Meagan EnYart who totaled 14 and 10 kills.
Debbie Brubaker recorded 37 assists in the match.
Kelly Oldiges had an astounding 28 digs in only three sets, while
Roshelle Watercutter had 11 of her own.
The Racers will now travel to Daytona Beach, FL to play in the Embry-Riddle Invitational. The Racers will play in 4 matches while in Florida, including a showdown against #15 Lewis-Clark state College (ID) and also #29 Embry-Riddle.
