The UNOH Lady Racer golf team hosted their 2nd Annual UNOH Racer Invitational on August 27th & 28th. The Lady Racers received a boost from Junior
Melissa Finch when she put herself in the record books for UNOH as she fired a 77 on Day 1 of the event, to tie the best 18 hole total for any UNOH golfer, Erin Winings shot a 77 last season. On Day 2 she shot a 85 to set the 36 hole record of 162, two strokes better than the previous record held by Winings as well. The Lady Racers finished the event in 2nd place out of 6 teams.
On Day 1,
Melissa Finch's 77 was the low round for the day, there was only one other golfer in the seventies as Malone's Jen Snyder shot a 79. Junior
Christy Brinkman fired an 86 on the day to help place a solid score for the Racers. Senior
Hollie Johnston was not far behind with a 91. Sophomore
Chelsea Crow fired a 97 and Freshman
Ashley Kunkler shot a 110. The top 4 scores were used to give the Lady Racers a Day 1 total of 351.
After Day 1, they were 6 strokes behind Madonna, who fired a 345. The next closest behind UNOH was Urbana as they shot a 377.
On Day 2, the Lady Racers slipped as Finch's 85 was the leader for the Lady Racers, but she still garnered the school record for 36 holes.
Christy Brinkman fired a 90 on the day to finish #2 for UNOH.
Chelsea Crow improved on her first round as she shot a 92.
Hollie Johnston shot a 101 on the day to finish #4 for the Lady Racers. Improving from her Day 1 was
Ashley Kunkler who fired a 102.
For the event,
Melissa Finch finished 3rd overall with a 162.
Christy Brinkman finished 8th overall as she shot a 176. Finishing in 15th place was
Chelsea Crow with a 189, and not far behind her was Holle Johnston in 17th place with a 192. Competing in her first collegiate event was
Ashley Kunkler who finished T-23rd with a 212.
Competing as individuals were Senior
Rachael Cox who finished in 26th with a 213. Sophomore
Jessica May shot a 109 on Day 1, but had to withdraw due to injury.
Five players made the All-Tournament team.Madonna's Chelsea Bathurst finished 5th, Urbana's Marie McGinnis finished in 4th, Lady Racer
Melissa Finch finished 3rd, Malone's Jen Snyder finished in 2nd, and Medalist Honors went to Madonna's Michelle Hall as she fired a 158, including a 75 on Day 2.
