On the 6th of August the motorsports team brought out all seven of its cars in a salute to all of the faculty and staff that were celebrating UNOH Night at Limaland. In addition, the university had invited high school auto, diesel, and ag instructors from all over the country to Limaland to see firsthand what UNOH's motorsports team was all about. The big crowd of UNOH fans was not disappointed as the motorsports team had one of its most successful nights of the season.
The motorsports team fielded four cars in the UMP modified division. Chris Puskas was in the #01 car and Andy Strait was in the #2 car just as they have been all season. Joining them was second year driver Jerrid Back in the #1 car and first year sensation Kody Weisner in the #00 car. Heat one had three of the UNOH student drivers vying for the top five transfer spots. Puskas led the way with a first place finish with Strait right behind him in second place. Weisner had his hands full with some of the veteran drivers, but a strong move at the end moved him into the fifth and final transfer spot. Back took the green flag at the back of heat three and was only able to advance to the sixth position at the checkered flag. His sixth place finish meant he would have to get a top five in the B Main to continue on. Despite some significant damage to the right side of his car, Back was able to hang on to the fifth position and transfer to the A Main. In the A Main Puskas, Strait, Weisner, and Back would start in the third, fourth, thirteenth and twentieth positions respectively. Once the dust had settled Strait had muscled his way to the second position, Puskas finished in fourth, Weisner in seventh and Back was fourteenth.
In the Thunderstock division Cale Ross was piloting the #2 car, first time driver Brandon Ziehl was behind the wheel of the #1 car and Tony Marinucci was driving the #01 car. Heat one saw Ross and Marinucci finish fourth and sixth respectively while Ziehl wheeled the #1 car to a sixth place position in heat two. In an action packed A Main, Marinucci went out early with engine trouble and finished the race in 19th place. Ziehl continued to get use to his car and the track and wound up in the 12th position at the checkered flag. Ross looked to have the best finish of the night for UNOH's stock car drivers, but a last lap incident entering turn three put his car on its side and out of the race. He was officially credited with 14th place.
The motorsports team showed up at Limaland the next Friday, the 13th, with fewer cars, four, but with the same intensity as any other night. The team knows the season is rapidly coming to a close and everyone wants to see one more victory before the cars are torn apart for the winter refurbishing.
Chris Puskas and Andy Strait were both in the same cars they have been in for the majority of the season and both of them were hungry for a win. Puskas drove his #01 car to a fifth place finish in the second modified heat race of the night. Strait duplicated Puskas' feat in the third heat when he finished in fifth place also. In the A Main, the two evenly matched UNOH cars stayed nearly nose to tail until the end. Puskas finished in tenth place while Strait was in 13th when the checkered flag fell.
After Coach Paul Higgins and the rest of the coaches evaluated the damage done to the #2 car the previous weekend it was decided that the best use of teams time would be to replace the damaged engine in the #01 car with the engine from the #2 car and park the #2 car for the rest of the season. That meant that the team would only be fielding two cars in the Thunderstock division. For this Friday, Kody Weisner was back in the of the #1 car and Jerrid Back took the helm of the #01 car. In heat one Weisner finished in the second position while Back finished in the sixth position. Weisner would also have the better of it in the A Main, but not by much. He would take the checkered flag in the ninth position and Back ended up in tenth when he took the checkered flag.
