A golden goal by Pascal Debowiak (SR/Ahlen, Germany) in the second overtime lifted the #7 ranked Northwestern Ohio men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Saint Xavier in its home opener Saturday afternoon at Racer Stadium.

Neither team had many opportunities in the first half, with both squads attempting two shots, but the offenses started to come alive in the second half as UNOH took nine shots compared to five for the Cougars.

The contest, however, remained scoreless until the 105:58 mark of the second overtime.  A shot by Devin Morgan (SO/Covington, KY) was blocked out of bounds, setting up a penalty kick from the right side.  Morgan took the kick and after a quick battle for the ball, Debowiak converted a shot into the game-winner for his second goal of the season.  Morgan was credited with his first assist of the year.

"Today was a tough game, we came out slow and Saint Xavier came out ready to play," said Tyler Brock, who picked up his first win as Racer head coach with the victory.  "I like how we responded, though, to the slow start and really stepped up the pressure in the second half and in the overtimes."

"I thought Devin had a great game out wide," added Brock.  "Our backline was solid again and got us our second shutout in a row.  The game really started to change when we put Nick Doutch (JR/Kalgoorlie, Australia) in up top.  He brought an energy to the game and it forced the rest of his teammates to step up their level."

"We just need to be smarter and more clinical in game and, hopefully, that will come with experience as we go through this season."

Northwestern Ohio (1-1-1) hosts Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday, September 13, at 4:00 at Racer Stadium.
