LIMA, Ohio – In the third day of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, the Detroit Tigers drafted Kyle Thomas of the University of Northwestern Ohio with the 905th in the 30th round.

Thomas, a senior right-handed pitcher from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, transferred to UNOH as a junior for the 2016 season. In his two seasons with the Racers, Thomas posted a 3.32 ERA and appeared in 24 contests while making 20 starts. All 16 of his appearances during the 2017 season were as starts.

During his senior year, Thomas posted a record of 10-1 while notching three shutouts. His 98.2 innings pitched and 104 strikeouts on the season are the second most by a UNOH pitcher in a single year.

Thomas became the second UNOH player drafted by the Tigers in as many seasons as John Schreiber was selected during the 15th round last year.
