LIMA - When Kody Weisner last saw Limaland Motorsports Park, he was riding in his modified car on the hook of a tow truck after a seven-car pile-up claimed his night. The wreck forced his move from the 00 car he had used all last year and the beginning of this one to the 1 car he manned Friday.

After some hiccups and adjustments, Weisner and his University of Northwestern Ohio crew seemed to figure a few things out as he claimed a sixth place finish in the K&N UMP Modified feature Friday at Limaland for the UNOH High Performance Motorsports Team.

Weisner and crew were accustomed to tightening up the 00 car, but the set up on the 1 car was already tight, so they changed bars and front springs before the feature, on the advice of NASCAR legend Kenny Schrader, who was visiting Limaland and running in his UNOH car. The change paid off for Weisner, who climbed seven spots from his 13th-place starting position.

"We changed a couple of other things here and there, and adjusted my driving style because it wasn't like anything I'm used to driving, and holy cow did it make a difference," Weisner said. "I really think we're on to something. I like this car a lot more than the 00.

Schrader won the feature narrowly over multiple time track champion Terry Hull, and another UNOH ambassador, Kenny Wallace took third.

Weisner wasted little time cracking the top 10, checking in at ninth five laps into the 20-lap feature. Three laps later, he was up to eighth then seventh on the next lap and finally sixth by lap 12.

"I think we can get a win here in the next couple of weeks with what we're working on now," Weisner said. "You see the light at the end of the tunnel. Tweaking it here and there, we'll be right there."

Teammate Ryan O'Dette spun out on lap five after checking up for a slower car; up to that point, O'Dette felt he had a top-10 running car. He took his position at the back of the pack after drawing the yellow flag, but O'Dette was able to avoid more trouble and finished 12th.

"The car was great before I had to check down and I spun. After I spun, I felt like I lost the car; I don't know if it was me or the car," O'Dette said. "Of course I'm always trying to better myself. … Of course it's a race against yourself; you always want to get better. The crew deserves it."

The UNOH stock car teams put two new drivers in the seats Friday in their predetermined rotation; Mitch O'Patik took over the No. 2 car and Josh Sutter climbed into the 00 car. O'Patik was impressive in his first Bud Thunderstocks feature, jumping up from his 14th-place starting spot to finish fourth, followed closely by Joel Ortberg's fifth place finish. Sutter finished ninth in his first ever race on a dirt track.

The fourth UNOH stock car driver, Austin Frankart, was involved in an on-track incident during his heat race. Frankart escaped the accident uninjured, according to family members.
